📚 Education and Skills Training
Holiday Program
Stawisha engaged 150 children during the December holiday through academic support and skill-building activities. These included storytelling, art, games, dance sessions, and sports. A highlight was a 3-day chess and scrabble training by a guest from Nairobi, complete with motivational prizes.
Digital Literacy Program
To close the digital divide, our computer learning program trained and certified 16 students in digital skills. This initiative enhances youth employability and fosters opportunities for self-employment.
Vocational Training for Young Mothers
A new safe space was launched to offer hairdressing training to young mothers. Currently, 15 mothers are enrolled, with 11 actively participating. The facility is child-friendly, allowing mothers to learn while their children are safely engaged.
🌿 Food Security & Environment
Greenhouse Farming
Stawisha’s greenhouse project has produced a variety of vegetables used by both the staff and local community, strengthening food self-reliance.
Support for Grandmothers
In collaboration with WEGFA, agricultural training was provided to grandmothers. They received cassava and millet seeds and benefited from land preparation support using a tractor donated by the area MCA during February.
🩺 Health and Wellness
Jihusishe Nasi Project – Phase II Launch
With support from the Hivos SRHR Regional Fund, Phase II of the Jihusishe Nasi project launched in March 2025, running through October 2025. This initiative focuses on providing relevant SRHR (sexual and reproductive health and rights) education and services to adolescent girls and young mothers aged 10–24 across South East Alego Ward.
- Youth café forums in eight safe spaces
- Peer-to-peer sessions with school health clubs
- Community sensitization events
- Intergenerational dialogues
- Policy review of Siaya County RANMCAH Act
Adolescent Girl Power Program (AGPP)
As part of the Siaya cluster partners (Stawisha Africa Initiative, Siaya Muungano Network, Siaya Young Women Alliance), AGPP activities this quarter included:
- Skillful parenting workshops with caregivers and spouses
- Nurture and care sessions for young mothers
- Safe space mentor training
