Adolescent Girl Power Program (AGPP)<\/h4>\n

One of the session s with young mothers to share their experience as their navigate motherhood at early age<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Siaya cluster partners (Siaya Muungano Network, Stawisha Africa Initiative, and Siaya Young Women Alliance) within the framework of the Adolescent Girls Power Program (AGPP) entered into the AGPP preparatory phase for three months. The preparatory phase aimed to build community, young mothers, and stakeholders’ support to prevent and respond to existing challenges affecting young mothers in Siaya and contribute to a society where young mothers can equally access social and economic rights. This was informed by the findings from the Planning and learning phase following its implementation between December 2022 to June 2023 at the Olwa and Bar Agulu Sub- locations. The preparatory activities included data collection and profiling of young mothers information, supporting sessions with young mothers in sic communities of Bar Aguku and Olwa sub locations, entry meeting with gatekeepers and community leader among others.<\/p>\n\n

Jihusishe Nasi SRHR Project<\/h4>\n\n

Stawisha Africa Initiative through the support of the Hivos SRHR Regional Fund launched its Jihushishe Nasi SRHR project that will be implemented for one year. \u00a0The Jihushe Nasi is an\u00a0 SRHR inclusive project tailored towards providing relevant, comprehensible, and empowering SRHR\u00a0 information for adolescent girls and young mothers between 10-24 years within South East Alego ward by October 2024.\u00a0 The intended activities include the assessment of SRHR commodities at the health facilities, a baseline survey to understand the AGYW SRHR level of awareness, community sensitization, and awareness forums among others. The intended activities include mapping of adolescent SRHR level of awareness, training and education forum for community health promoters, community sensitization, and awareness forums, and youth cafe forums among others.<\/p>\n\n

Food security<\/h4>\n\n

Stawisha Africa Initiative working in partnership with Octopizzo Foundation conducted one day of training with women groups in the Ugenya sub-county with a focus on food security and food value addition. Additionally, the training ensured that the participants had the necessary knowledge and skills to make nutritious food during the training and in the future. This included producing value-added food products like mandazi and chapati for sale in local markets thereby improving their financial stability.<\/p>\n\n

PISCCA DECID\u2019HER<\/h4>\n\n

This is a one-year project known as \u00a0\u201cShe Deserves Her Rights and Skills\u201d supported by the French Embassy In Kenya. The project is targeting AGYW between the ages of 12-30 in the \u00a0Gem, \u00a0Alego, and Ugunja sub counties.\u00a0 It is anchored on a coherent and coordinated approach to support adolescent girls and young women in the rural parts of Siaya to reach their potential. The project is led by the Siaya Muungano Network where Stawisha Africa Initiative and African Women\u2019s Economic Policy Nucleus Kenya (AWEPON) are the implementing partners.<\/p>\n

The ongoing safe space of SRHR champions<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The expected outcomes include;<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Adolescent girls and young women are better informed; they access reproductive health services and make healthy choices regarding their sexuality.<\/li>\n
  • Adolescent girls and young women have voices, abilities, and choices and they enjoy equal rights in an environment free from gender-based violence.<\/li>\n
  • Young women have increased access to vocational skills and opportunities for the creation of decent jobs in the community for improved income.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The project activities included inception meeting with stakeholders, integrated community forums with adolescent girls and young women, train and launch of SRHR champions among others.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

    Digital Literacy Project<\/h4>\n

    We are excited to announce the launch of our digital literacy project following the successful joint efforts by the Teog team and the Stawisha Africa Initiative team to finalize and co-create a sustainable learning platform that allows Stawisha Africa Initiative to set up 2-3 months Teaching Computer Basic learnings program that will increase access to digital skills and awareness in the community. \u00a0The project will continuously target young mothers and young adults to create digital awareness and equip them with fundamental computer skills.<\/p>\n

    Expected Outcomes<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Improved the learners’ digital literacy skills\u00a0 and\u00a0 basic knowledge on how to use a computer, navigate the internet, send emails, use word processing software, and understand fundamental concepts related to technology<\/li>\n
    • Eenhanced the employability of learners such as young mothers and young adults by equipping them with essential skills needed in the modern workplace.<\/li>\n
    • Improved learners’ general knowledge through access to online information and resources such as the Kolibri Knowledge Box<\/li>\n
    • Increased participation in online forums (Ajira platforms), volunteering for digital literacy initiatives, or advocating for technology access and education in the community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

      LINKAGES AND PARTNERSHIP FORUMS<\/h3>\n

      Siaya County Integrated Development Plan<\/em><\/h4>\n\n

      Stawisha Africa Initiative joined Siaya Civil Society Organizations and other county stakeholders in an event to unveil the Siaya County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) for 2023-2027. The CIDP \u00a0will be significant for \u00a0CSOs, where Stawisha Africa Initiative is part of the network, to advocate for the implementation and oversight of various priority areas \u00a0through combined efforts.<\/p>\n
